The Beachwood League has lost another outstanding fan and a terrific lady, Sharon Gross, Mother of Beachwood player, Freddy Gross and grandmother to Ben Gross. Sharon was a stalwart fan of the "Black" team and brightened up the day for everyone with her appearances at Beachwood games. Her knowledge of baseball was well observed---especially her oft-criticisms of "Black" team players when things went wrong. Her great personality will be sorely missed, but memories of Sharon will remain for a long time.
Our deepest sympathies go out to Freddy and Ben and their entire family.
While most of you do not know this person, but anyone who has played on the Black teams and many of their weekly opponents will remember "Little Sam Rosner" (4'10" tall) who attended the Adelmans' games for over 40 years on virtually an every week basis---even when he turned totally deaf almost 10 years ago. Sam was often dubbed the "Beachwood Men's Softball Fan of the Year" and was once recognized as such at one of our banquets.
Sadly Sam passed away yesterday, and will be greatly missed by many of the perennial Black team members and many others.
Sam was 105 years young!!!!
It is with deep regret that I announce the passing of Al Vanger's mother. Al has been a long- time player in our league and his dad, Val, a terrific guy and a weekly fan.
Our deepest sympathies to Al and his family.
The Beachwood Men's Softball League
It is with the deepest regret that I announce the passing of Les Levine (74) who was not only a legend in the Cleveland area sports broadcasting field, but for years was a part of our Beachwood Men's Softball League as an annual speaker at our Softball banquets. He, thusly, became a staple of our League's family.
Personally, I have lost a great friend of many years. Our families had annually traveled together to the Nevele Resort in New York State for 15 consecutive years. Les was in his own right an outstanding softball player whom I thoroughly enjoyed playing and being with for those many years. I, as many, will miss him dearly.
Our heartfilled sympathies and condolences go out to his wife, Allison, his children, Jeremy and Jamie, and his grandchildren.
Larry Adelman
Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family of Reed Gilbert, a former staple of the Beachwood Men's Softball League who tragically was killed in an accident 2 weeks ago. Reed was truly one of the very best to ever play in the Beachwood League. He was a 4-time batting champion and a BMSL Hall of Famer. When elected, he had joined his father, Ralph, and brothers Randy and Rodd as existing members of the HOF.
Reed Gilbert will be greatly missed--- but long remembered as a highly respected and outstanding member of our league as well as a devoted father, son, brother, and friend.
